Utah is building a path breaking K-16 pipeline for second language study that starts with dual language immersion in grades K-6 and continues through college where students will take courses that link advanced language proficiency to professional expertise.
Schools around the country and internationally are seeking to emulate the so-called “Utah Model” of language education. The success of the “Utah Model” requires close cooperation between the State Office of Education, school districts, and universities across the state. As the flagship institution of higher education in the state, the University of Utah supports dual immersion teacher training, curriculum development, student assessment, and research.
We are currently partnering to develop a new Chinese literacy curriculum tailored to Utah's state standards. This project is producing both textbooks and an online platform to facilitate student practice with parents at home.

The University of Utah’s Asia Center and Confucius Institute are leading these efforts for Chinese offered at 38 elementary and middle schools to some 8000 students. To ensure ongoing support for Chinese dual immersion, we need the help of parents, the business community and alumni.
Please contribute to the Chinese Dual Language Immersion Fund at the University of Utah. Your contribution is tax-deductible and will be used to support innovative curriculum development, teaching training, and cultural opportunities for students.
