2021 Asian Studies Student of the Year Award!
The Asian Studies Student of the Year award comes with a $100 award and is given annually to an exceptional senior in the Asian Studies program who is graduating in spring or summer of the academic year.
Congratulations to Sarah Moore for receiving the Asian Studies 2021 Student of the Year award!
Sarah is an excellent student and is graduating with an Asian Studies major and a minor in Korean. During her time as an Asian Studies student, Sarah was selected for the highly competitive Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Scholarship. For her Asian Studies Signature Experience, Sarah completed a Learning Language Assistantship with a Korean language Assistantship with a Korean language professor at the university where, in addition to assisting the instructor, she would tutor beginning Korean students on weekends. While she was a Diversity scholar, she completed volunteer work at Jackson Elementary School. As a Beacon scholar, she volunteered on field trips and served as a mentor for incoming freshmen. This led to an internship with the Defining Your Path field trip program. Beyond volunteer work, she collaborated with First Star (a four-year college preparatory program for youth in foster care in Utah), and was able to put together an event for them on the University of Utah campus to talk to prospective students about opportunities on campus along with major exploration. She also helped put together the Tri-Ute Leadership Conference with the Office of Engagement and co-led the event. Currently, she is part of a student organization called "Council On Student Access" (COSA).
