Travel Award for SLCC Students

The University of Utah’s Asia Center has created a travel award for SLCC students to participate in a University of Utah Learning Abroad program in Asia. The travel award will support up to $1500 for a flight to India to participate in the Global Public Health in the Himalayas learning abroad program. The flight must comply with Fly America Act and is also subject to approval from our program officer.


Scholarship Information


Award Amount:

Up to $1,500 for approved flights.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a matriculated (degree-seeking) student at the University of Utah or Salt Lake Community College when the award is disbursed. If you are a non-U of U student, please indicate on your application.
  • Ultimately participate in a University of Utah-run Learning Abroad Program to Asia. If a student is selected for a scholarship but later does not commit to a program, their award will be revoked and allocated to another student.

Scholarship Application Deadline and Timeline:

Applications for all programs are accepted and reviewed twice per year, once on October 1st and March 1st.

Late scholarship applications will NOT be accepted.

The Asia Center (AC) committee reviews all scholarship applications after the application deadline and will notify applicants of their award status within 2-3 weeks of the application deadlines listed above.

FAFSA

Though this scholarship is not a need-based award, and it is not required, we recommend making sure that your FAFSA or any other financial aid paperwork is up to date when you apply. International students and those who are not able to fill out a FAFSA online should contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid to complete a paper FAFSA form. We recommend initiating this process at least one month before the scholarship deadline.

Statement of Purpose

In 400 (minimum) - 500 (maximum) words, describe how your Learning Abroad Program aligns with your academic, professional, and personal goals. Students should specifically address how their travel experience in Asia will enhance these goals.
